Cabinet Refinishing

Sprayed vs. Brushed Cabinet Finishes: Why It Matters

KB Painting spray-finishes suitable cabinets, with preparation and a coating system selected for your kitchen. Compare the sample, preparation, coating system, working conditions and care requirements in the written estimate.

Compare the finished sample and the proposed system

Spraying can produce a smooth cabinet finish with less visible application texture. It is the method KB Painting uses for cabinet refinishing, and we pair it with preparation and coatings selected for the surface. A carefully applied brush finish can perform well when the selected coating supports that method.

Sherwin-Williams’ kitchen cabinet painting guide includes brush and mini-roller application with Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel. This provides another supported application option to discuss when comparing finishes.

What spraying changes

Spraying allows doors and drawer fronts to be finished in a controlled work area while fixed frames are protected and coated in place. It requires suitable equipment, masking, ventilation and application conditions. Poor technique can still leave runs, uneven coverage or a rough surface.

Ask to see a sample in the color and sheen you are considering. Look at it under the lighting in your kitchen, including angled light near windows. Darker colors or a higher sheen can make texture easier to notice, so this is a useful step before choosing the final finish.

What the application method does not change

The surface must be sound and prepared for the coating. We assess grease, wax, the existing finish, swollen board and loose veneer before painting, then include the necessary preparation and agreed repairs in the scope.

The primer and topcoat must be compatible with the material and previous finish. Recoat intervals, application conditions and handling instructions belong to the specified product. Neither a brush nor a sprayer turns a wall coating into an appropriate cabinet system.

Questions for a written estimate

  • Which doors, drawer fronts, fixed frames, exposed ends and interiors are included?
  • What cleaning, preparation and repairs are required?
  • Which primer, topcoat, color and sheen are specified?
  • Where will each part be finished, and when will kitchen access be restricted?
  • When can the finish be handled, cleaned and returned to normal use?

KB Painting uses its own employees and provides a six-month cabinet finish warranty under the written terms. Our cabinet service page explains scope and pricing guidance, and the project gallery shows actual finished work.

FAQ

Common questions

Should cabinets be sprayed or brushed?

Either can be suitable when the selected coating supports the method and the surface is properly prepared. KB Painting uses spray application for cabinet work. Compare a finished sample and the complete coating specification rather than judging durability from the tool alone.

Does spraying matter more for dark cabinet colors?

Texture and sheen can be more noticeable under some lighting and with deeper colors. Review the color, sheen and application sample together in your kitchen lighting.

What should I ask about cabinet application?

Ask which surfaces and repairs are included, where the work happens, which products are specified, when access is restricted, and what handling and cleaning instructions apply.
